Phishbacher New York Electric Trio, the outfit around Austrian/New York pianist Walter Fischbacher, presents a grooving, entertaining yet highly sophisticated set of original compositions and covers, ranging from the drum & bass version of the Beatles' I Want You to the Latin jazz tune Valmez, via the gorgeously moody ballad Mellow Moon Moaning.
The band's latest line-up features New York City based Yutaka Uchida, a highly sought-after musician in the New York City jazz scene, on drums, and Germany based Goran Vujic on bass, bringing some European flavor to the mix. The vibe of this outfit is distinctly funky, with Mr. Uchida providing an impossibly tight back beat to Mr. Vujic's thumping bass lines.PNYET attends the festival with the drummer Ulf Sticker who augments his drumset with a good selection of Latin percussion instruments, from bongos to bells. Merging distinct flavors from different corners of the world, this 2010 version of Phishbacher brings 70s Funk into the 21st Century.
