Atilla Atala - 'Jazz Icons' Painting Exhibition
The artist graduated from Istanbul State Fine Arts Academy, continues his painting, interior architecture and graphic design works at his atelier. In addition to these, he participates in exhibitions with his works of caricature and photography.
In this exhibition, with the statement 'JAZZ, the perfect collectivism of the blessed individualism', he depicts jazz artists with acrylic on canvas, being inspired from Byzantine icons The admiration directed towards God through the iconic depictions, is directed to jazz music through the portraits of the jazz musicians by considering the 'individualism' brought by the solo performances and 'togetherness' in simultaneous playing.
It is aimed that, the intense emotional dialogue between the icon and the one who communicates with it will be set with the jazz artist on canvas. The superficiality on the plasticity of the icons is reflected in these paintings to white plain geometrical spaces on the black background. The black background makes references to the sorrow and tough living conditions at the roots of jazz.
The musical harmony and the perfect coherence during the collective rendering of the jazz artists who come to the fore with their solos, is expressed with the rainbow colours of the instruments on canvas. These colours of rainbow associated with the harmony in music are identified with the gilt background.
