A jazz festival with a vocal theme could not be without them. 'World Champion' Boğaziçi Jazz Choir, the smiling face of polyphonic music, a group that won awards in many international competitions, had won our hearts once more when they sang 'a remedy will be found, the people are rising up' last summer. The choir is getting ready to meet the festival audience with their repertoire ranging from modern music to jazz and also polyphonic arrangements of Turkish folk music.
Boğaziçi Jazz Choir gained its first great success in 2008 in Austria, in the world's most prestigious a cappella competition 'Vokal Total' in categories of pop and jazz by receiving 'Silver Diploma' awards. They returned with medals from the 6thWorld Choir Games (China, 2010), World Choir Championships (Austria, 2011), the 7th World Choir Games (USA, 2012), and the 9th Cantemus International Choral Festival (Hungary, 2012). At the same time, according to INTERKULTUR the choir is ranked 2nd in folklore category and 12th in the world rankings.
The conductor of the choir since 2007, Masis Aram Gözbek, born in 1987, as well has a remarkable career in music. He has participated in numerous competitions, festivals and masterclasses in many countries, among which are the USA, Germany, Austria, China, Italy, Sweden, Latvia and Hungary. He received the 'The Most Successful Young Person' award in the category 'Cultural Achievement' in the Turkey finals of the '19th Ten Outstanding Young Persons'. Gözbek studies at MSGSÜ State Conservatory and continues his conducting studies with Antonio Pirolli and composition studies with Mehmet Nemutlu.
